HEALTH POLICIES 2005
The health of members and participants in SARRC events is a primary concern of SARRC which will promote and support these policies at each of its meetings, activities and events.
Hot weather policy (Adopted Board meeting 21 February 2005)
SARRC encourages safe and moderate exercise and the reduction of activity in warmer weather. In particular –
- Participants are urged to maintain an adequate (but not excessive) intake of fluids before, during and on completion of running.
- An adequate supply of water will be provided at the start of events, at regular points along the course (usually 5 km intervals) and at the finish area of events to enable adequate cooling and hydration.
- Similarly, the routes taken by the weekly running groups will ensure adequate supplies of water for the same purposes.
- Events will be scheduled, to the greatest extent possible, to avoid the hottest parts of the day (usually 11 am to 3 pm).
- Race directors or organizers are authorised to delay, curtail, postpone or cancel events where the temperature during the period when the event will be conducted is estimated to be 35 degrees Celsius or higher. The estimate may be based on forecasts or reports by the Bureau of Meteorology or by readings taken at the course.
- The Twilight series conducted during the evening in January and February will be postponed for one week if the predicted maximum temperature at 9 am on the day of the event is 35 degrees Celsius or higher. This policy will not be applied if a cool change is forecast to arrive prior to the scheduled start of the event.
Smoke Free policy (Adopted Board meeting 21 February 2005)
Smoking is prohibited at any function conducted by SARRC. In particular –
- All functions conducted by SARRC will be smoke free whether conducted indoors or outdoors. All persons attending the functions in whatever capacity will be expected to refrain from smoking at or in the near vicinity while the function is in progress and for a reasonable period before and after its conclusion.
- There will be no advertising, promotion, sale or consumption of cigarette or tobacco products at any SARRC function or in its publications.
- Signage displaying We’re smoke free will be displayed at major events conducted by SARRC.
- All SARRC publications (including the website) will either publish the policy or the message We’re smoke free.
Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Policy (Adopted Board meeting 21 February 2005)
SARRC aims to provide a sport environment where all those involved in its activities are treated with dignity and respect, and without harassment or discrimination. It recognizes that people are entitled to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness, and to participate in an environment that is enjoyable, safe and healthy.
Therefore, SARRC requires that its officials, members, volunteers or participants in its events and other activities should ensure that all people involved are treated fairly and not discriminated against or harassed because of their sex, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, race, age, disability, homosexuality, sexuality, transgender, religion, political belief and/or industrial activity.
- Prohibits all forms of harassment and discrimination. This includes behaviour that the recipient finds distressing, offensive, humiliating and/or threatening and that creates an uncomfortable and unpleasant environment.
- Any person who considers that they are being harassed or discriminated against by another official, officer, volunteer or participant in SARRC events or activities should contact the President or another Board member (contact details are on the Club website or are available from the SARRC office) and provide details of the nature and extent of any alleged discrimination or harassment.
- The President or Board member will investigate the complaint promptly and may seek advice or assistance from other Board members while respecting the privacy to which the complainant is entitled at law.
- A prompt response will be provided indicating, inter alia, what action has been or will be taken to remedy or ameliorate the conduct complained of.
