On Sunday 7 April, our first half marathon of the year will be held in the gorgeous Clare Valley.
It's worth the trip to come to this great event. Clare is north east of Adelaide on the Horrocks Highway (formerly Main North Road) and it will take you just under two hours to get there.
The Clare Valley is one of South Australia's best known wine regions. The wineries are outstanding, with so many to choose from. There are more than 40 cellar doors. The early settlers were mainly of British and German descent and their influence can still be found in the Clare Valley. A lot of the original buildings remain and are now used as cosy guest houses, restaurants and galleries.
It's a lovely country town for a weekend away. It is so popular that accommodation fills up quickly. If you are thinking about spending the weekend in Clare, make sure you book sooner rather than later.
Early bird entries close 8am, Monday 25 March 2013.
Bibs will be available for collection from the SARRC office from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Thursday 4 April and Friday 5 April, as well as at the venue on race morning.
Race day entry will incur a $10 surcharge.
The half marathon course
The course will follow the Riesling Trail – along the former railway line sourth from Clare, with the turnaround point at Penwortham. You will run past vineyards, mixed farms and natural bushland. The trail is a compacted surface and has a very small gradient, allowing you to come home fast.
For family members and supporters, there are plenty of spots along the Riesling Trail where you can cheer the runners on.
This year we will have the kids' fun run again on the oval. Children who want to participate in this event can enter on the day.

Club Coach Chris Taylor has put together an easy to follow 12 week training program for our half marathons in 2013. Read more here and start training today!
Make a weekend of it
The Clare Valley Half Marathon is a good one to bring the whole family to and make a fun weekend away. After the run, you could go to the Clare Valley Food, Wine and Art Market in Ennis Park next to Clare Town Hall, or visit one of the many wineries.
Greg Cooley, who is one of our major sponsors, will have a barbecue at his cellar door (vegetarian option available). Catering for adults is available for $15 and kids can enjoy a sausage sizzle for $1. If you are interested in attending, please call the cellar door on 8843 4284 to book (as places are limited). Local singer Danny Hooper will also be performing.
Greg will also give a 20% discount to competitors when they purchase wine at his cellar door.
The Clare Valley Business and Tourism Assocaiton can help with all your accommodation needs.
We are looking forward to seeing many familes at the race.
