CLELAND TRAILS
(Incorporating the South Australian Trail Running Championship TM)
Enjoy racing along bush tracks on the wooded slopes of Mt Lofty, with views down rugged valleys and beyond as far as the sea. This is some of the finest scenery in the Mt Lofty Ranges, yet it is all easily accessible from Adelaide. The courses are predominantly on bush tracks or dirt paths, and almost completely out of sight of roads. They all start and finish on a wide track on the eastern side of the Cleland Wildlife Park carpark.

There will be three races, of different degrees of difficulty.
1) A 6 km run or walk race. This is an easy course through splendid forests along the Wine Shanty Track for 3km as far as the Yerang Track, returning along the same route. This makes a perfect introduction to trail running for those who are more accustomed to running on sealed roads and paths. There will be a marshal at the turn-around point.

2) A 12 km run or walk race. This is a more challenging course along the Wine Shanty track, down the Gunbower Track and the Chambers Gully Track to Chambers Gully, turning left to go up along the Bartril Spur Track to the Long Ridge Track and the finish. There are some tough slopes on this route, but they are quite manageable for those who are reasonably fit. There will be a drink station at the 6 km point and a marshal at the turn off to the Bartril Spur Track.
3) A 24 km run only race. This is a demanding course which forms the SARRC Trail Running Championship. The race follows the same route as the 12km race to Chambers Gully, but turns right down the Chambers Gully Track to Waterfall Gully Road, turns left to follow the road for 400m, then goes up the scenic slopes of Mt Osmond to Eagle on the Hill, along the dense woodland of the Mireen, Birriee and the Nangare Tracks to the finish - a total ascent/descent of 985 m.
The course really is tough but has been run in one hour 45 minutes: see if you're up to the challenge!
