SA Trail Running Championship

SUNDAY 17th April 2011
24km Runners only and 12km Runners and Walkers. Everyone is welcome.

The inaugural South Australian Trail Running Championship is for everyone! Test your trail running prowess against the best in your gender/age group, or just enjoy a scenic and challenging run in good company. A special welcome is extended to visitors, and to those new to trail running. The shorter route offers splendid scenery in pleasant surroundings, and is available for walkers. Abundant signage, first-aid facilities and drink stations will be provided to help people enjoy their run. These events provide runners with a challenging goal, and also with excellent preparation for the height of the marathon season.

Whichever category of runners or walkers you belong to, you will enjoy these routes. They are easily accessible and reasonably easy to follow, while including some of the finest scenery in the Mt Lofty Ranges. The majority of the long route passes through woodland on the steep slopes of the Mt Lofty range. Starting at Brock Reserve, at the terminal point of the historic Pioneer Women’s Trail, it winds along the grassy slopes of Mt Osmond where there are wonderful views over Adelaide. The trail soon enters scattered woodland alongside Mt Osmond golf course, and continues through the natural woodland of Cleland Conservation Park. The trail then  the passes just beneath the summit of Mt Lofty, and continues along the Wine Shanty Track to Greenhill Rd, whence it descends through the rugged Chambers Gully, crosses Waterfall Gully Rd, passes north-westwards through the revegetated Beaumont Dump, finally returning to the Pioneer Women’s Trail. The shorter route covers the first stage of the longer route, and turns around at Eagle-on-the-Hill to go back the same way.

The awards ceremony will be held at about 12.00pm. We suggest you bring folding chairs for use during the awards ceremony!
Trophies or medals, with a championship logo inscribed, will be offered to the first three male and first three female place-getters in the two running events, and to the first place-getter in the walk. There will also be medals for the winner of each age/gender category in the longer event. The age-categories with be five-yearly, e.g. 20-24.

A range of light refreshments will be available after the event, including fruit, food bars, buns, fruit juice, soft drink and water. Ample roadside parking is available alongside Dashwood and Glynburn Rds. There are toilets at Beaumont House.
