Melissa White was diagnosed with leukemia at 9 months of age. After 13 months of chemotherapy, Melissa sadly passed away. In conjunction with City of Salisbury, Salisbury North Football Club and the South Australian Road Runners Club, a Fun Run is organised. It is was originally held in June 2000 at the Carisbrooke Reserve, Main North Road.
The Melissa White Memorial has since 1996 raised in excess of $100 000. Monies over the past few years has assisted in financing a new laboratory named and dedicated in Melissa's memory, to aid in research of leukemia. Monies raised in the Fun Run will be donated to the Hanson Cancer Research Centre and Camp Quality Adelaide.
