Notes about this run...
This is an unsupported run - other than the water dump at the half way mark there will not be any other support.
This doesn't stop you from getting your partners, friends, family out along the course on the day handing out iceblocks
or cooking us crepes at The Pines Oval in Belair National Park.

There are no rules to this run. If you want to go a different route - that's up to you! We'll be generally following the Sea to Summit trail that was devised by well known Adelaide bushwalker, the late George Driscoll, as detailed in his book "50 Real Bushwalks Around Adelaide". The route winds its way across South Rd, behind Flinders University, through Blackwood to Belair National Park, then to Crafers and on to the Mt Lofty Summit. Driscoll wanted to design a course that provided walkers with as much time off road as possible.

Just a note of warning - unlike many other trails there are no sign posts or trail markers pointing out the way to go. A suggestion - if in doubt head upwards!

In preparation for the run a small group of us checked out the course. Based on this pre-run we will distribute prior to the run (by email) and on the day of the run new maps with guides and instructions (in paper form and A4 plastic pockets). There are a couple of sections of the original run that we have changed slightly for ease of access (and so we don't all go running down someone's driveway!) There are also some key instructions that we want you to have at certain times to make sure you don't get lost. We will prepare these maps in such a way that they are easy to read as you run. They will include details of water stops, toilets and shops.

There are adequate opportunities for accessing water along the way so runners shouldn't have to carry too much. If you need some food along the way you could always do breakfast at McDonalds or divert slightly off the trail to the Blackwood shops or Joan's Pantry at Hawthorndene.

Take care crossing roads, especially Brighton Rd - use of the pedestrian traffic lights at Brighton Rd and Thomas St is highly recommended!

Wear a hat and sunscreen! There is good tree coverage once you get beyond Flinders University but the trail is very exposed before that. Hopefully you will complete this section before the sun gets too high

It will be hard work - a 32 km run on flat ground is a good hard run. Add a 710 m climb plus a 200 m climb and 150m descent in the first 7km and you have one hell of a run. Take it easy, look after yourself and each other - and have fun!
